10 Marilyns, 1967

Andy Warhol loved the celebrities–actors/actresses, musicians, world leaders, etc.  And he worshipped Marilyn Monroe and did quite a lot of artwork around her.  Here is the 10 series of Marilyn Monroe done in favorites of Andy Warhol’s colors–the vivid yellows, pinks, greens and turquoises that he loved.  When Marilyn Monroe died, Andy Warhol spent four months doing 20 silkscreen paintings of her centered around a photo of Marilyn done for publicity of the movie “Niagra”.

More fascination with Marilyn Monroe, by Andy Warhol, the pop art era founder. Andy Warhol loved the celebrity cult following, and used Marilyn and other celebrities to create assembly-line paintings.  Knowing that there was mortality lurking behind the myth of being famous, Andy was fascinated by death.  Here is the Four Marilyns, all the same, yet all different.  Andy loved to create artwork like this–vibrant, colorful, graphic and iconic.

Glamorous

Another famous Marilyn Monroe art printby Frank Ritter.  He was in love with the Marilyn Monroe image and other movie stars also, like Audrey Hepburn and did artwork of them in black and white or sepia shades and usually, red lips.  These art prints all have wonderful names like “Glamorous”, “Elegance”, “Allure” and “Enchant”.  These can also be known as the Marilyn Monroe art with the red lips!  Frank Ritter also did a few of James Dean, too.

Marilyn Monroe Art Print

This Marilyn Monroe print is by Vladimor Gorsky.  A bright, all-American pop art modernistic type of print.  Gorsky painted a lot of Hollywood icons like Elvis, Frank Sinatra and James Dean.  His paintings are very popular, bold and colorful.  He died in 2008 but also painted private portraits and is best known for his collage/mixed media painting called “Tapestry of the Centuries”.

Photoportfolio III

This art print is a photograph by Milton H. Greene who did a few seductive photos of Marilyn Monroe, also in black and white.  Greene also shot many Hollywood stars of that 40s and 50s period.  In fact, he became a good friend of Marilyn’s.  He did thoughtful photographs which resulted in prints of Marilyn Monroe like these and was able to catch some vulnerability at the same time.

Everybodies Dream

Italian artist Renato Casaro painted extremely realistic yet almost like photographs.  He painted more than 800 movie posters for 40 years.  He is internationally acclaimed and created Sunset Boulevard’s first billboard.  But this Marilyn Monroe print really has a significant title–”Everybodies Dream”!
